Faculty of Engineering

How far can we take technology? The Faculty of Engineering consists of six departments: the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering; the Department of Electrical Systems Engineering; the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering; the Department of Intelligent Mechanical Engineering; the Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Design, and the Department of Architectural Engineering, each of which aims to nurture personnel who can contribute to the present day's "construction society."

Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering

This department aims to teach students the skills necessary to make "ubiquitous computing" (ubicomp) a reality, and is made up of three fields: Electronics & Information Engineering (formed from the merger of the fast-advancing field of Electronics, Information and Communications and that of Photonic Systems), which deals with computing and signal processing; Information & Communications, dealing with the internet and photonic networks, and Electronic Devices, dealing with integrated circuits and semiconductors.

Department of Electrical Systems Engineering

With a foundation in electrical engineering, studies will be split into three fields, all indispensable to the future of society: Energy Systems - solar and other clean energy technologies & efficient transmission of electric power; Computer Systems - regulation of information-related consumer electronics and machinery; Information Communications Systems - cutting-edge transmissions technology.

Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering

With the steady advance of high- and multi-functionality, the aim is to foster individuals who can take technology onto the next level. Combining conventional study and hands-on experience, the department is made up of five fields: Practical Experience; The Fundamentals of Structure Function; The Fundamentals of Energy and Environment Function; The Fundamentals of Surface Working and Production Function and the Fundamentals of Systematization Function.

Department of Intelligent Mechanical Engineering

Integrated around the three fields of Automobile, Robot and Production Technology, and dealing with intelligent robots and automobiles, information technologies, electrical devices, care welfare, and other areas that generate a variety of useful goods for better living, this department provides a high-level education in manufacturing technology covering, for example, intelligent system technology, CAD/CAM, and intelligent production management skills.

Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Design

For the purpose of creating cities which are environment-friendly and comfortable to live in, this department focuses on spatial information technology. urban planning, and design techniques in a framework comprising four major fields: Information and Design, Urban Space and Design, Environmental Restoration and Remediation, and Structural Design and Construction.

Department of Architectural Engineering

Organized into three fields: Planning and Facilities, Materials and Construction, and Building Structure, this department focuses on the construction of housing, schools, offices, hospitals and public facilities, covering architectural planning, design and drawing, building materials, building construction, structural mechanics, and building structure design.
